RSL shows off its bling!

Real Salt Lake hosted a party at Rio Tinto Stadium Tuesday evening. Some crazy guy on the field kept yelling about a 12th man. He pole danced with a scarf. True story. Dave Checketts can vouch for it. Ask him if you don’t believe me.

RSL gets win and 3 points

Sandy, Utah — If you believe, you can achieve! That is what Real Salt Lake (RSL) fans are shouting today after their team ended the regular season with a definitive exclamation point. Before an exuberant crowd of almost 19,000, RSL defeated their Rocky Mountain foe the Colorado Rapids 3-0 with a spectacular display of team cohesion and raw talent.

Robbie Findley, who scored two of the team’s three goals Saturday evening (15th and 33rd), summed up the team’s efforts this way, “We knew what we had to do to have the chance to make the playoffs, and that was win — by a couple of goals, if we could. For those 90 minutes we gave it all we had, every single player.”

Findley’s second goal, beautifully setup by a long pass from midfielder Andy Williams, was Colorado’s proverbial nail in the coffin. It sent the Rapids into the locker room at halftime with a large deficit and deflated expectations.

“A two-nil halftime is a very difficult task” commented Colorado head coach Gary Smith after the game. “I have to give a lot of credit to Salt Lake and the way they played, the way they attacked the game, and, sadly, I can’t say the same about my group today. More of their players were better than more of ours, and it was very evident from start to finish.”

The question that now looms over RSL is, how far into the playoffs will the team advance this year. In the 2008 playoff race, RSL coach Jason Kreis lead his team to the Western Conference Finals. RSL lost to New York Redbulls in a close 1-0 match.
